Tax invoice template for Australia
If you're registered for GST and a customer asks for a tax invoice, you must give them one within 28 days, unless the sale is $82.50 or less including GST. Here's what it must show, based on ATO guidance. Then fill in the free template and download a PDF.
What a tax invoice must show (sales under $1,000)
- That the document is intended to be a tax invoice.
- The seller's identity: your name or business name.
- The seller's ABN.
- The date it was issued.
- A brief description of what was sold, with the quantity (if applicable) and the price.
- The GST amount, shown separately, or "Total price includes GST" if GST is exactly one-eleventh of the total.
- The extent to which each sale is taxable.
Sales of $1,000 or more
The tax invoice must also show the buyer's identity or ABN. An invoice that meets the $1,000-or-more rules works for smaller sales too.
Mixed sales
If some items are GST-free, the invoice must show which items are taxable, the GST amount and the total. In Invoice Maker, untick GST applies on a GST-free line; it's marked "No GST" on the invoice.
Make one in Invoice Maker
